Attorney Kristi Favard

Employment & Construction Lawyer in Everett

Kristi Favard is Sapphire Legal’s founder and managing member. She has 15 years of experience primarily as a litigator. In addition to litigation, Kristi drafts and negotiates contracts and other agreements for her clients.

Prior to opening Sapphire Legal, Kristi was a partner at major Seattle and Everett law firms. She has been voted in as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star℠ for most of her career. She has a proven record of years of experience and success in her industry-focused practice areas, including construction and real estate; employment civil rights law; ERISA cases involving life, health, and disability insurance claims; and general litigation.

Kristi is a top-rated attorney in construction law and litigation, which was her primary practice area for many years. She has represented general contractors, subcontractors, materialmen and suppliers, laborers, owners, and developers in all aspects of construction law and real estate cases. She handles construction disputes, breach of contract cases, lien filings and disputes, negligence, fraud, and consumer protection act cases, boundary line disputes, zoning issues, and eminent domain matters.

She also litigates employment and civil rights cases for executives, professionals, and other employees in harassment, discrimination, retaliation, hostile work environment, wrongful termination, wage and hour, medical leave, and disability cases. She offers employment advice and drafts employment and severance agreements, policies, non-competes, and other employment-related agreements.

In life, health, and disability cases, Kristi previously represented the insurance companies that denied benefits. However, after wrongfully being denied her own disability insurance benefits in 2015, and appealing and winning that decision, Kristi now represents only employees and their families in insurance benefit cases. She no longer defends insurers. She is dedicated to helping others get the insurance benefits they paid for and deserve.

Kristi continuously litigates cases outside of her practice areas as well. She has represented parties in partnership disputes, copyright infringement, consumer rights, negligence, and interference with business relationship matters. She has provided pro bono legal services in family law disputes, administrative hearings, and civil rights cases. Her abilities as a litigator allow her to handle almost any type of civil lawsuit with the utmost confidence.

Kristi's practice areas are extremely focused and require in-depth industry knowledge and experience. Kristi has the knowledge, experience, and skills, as well as a valuable personal touch, that both alleviates her clients’ stress and provides them with excellent legal representation.

On a personal level, Kristi takes pride in being very responsive to her clients and giving them the best value for legal services. Having come from a modest background, she appreciates that not everyone can afford an attorney and she works with her clients to ensure that they have access to the court system. She offers her services at reasonable rates, takes some cases on contingency and flat fee basis, and volunteers her time with various non-profits to provide access to justice. Kristi is a communicator and is always available to her clients. She timely returns phone calls and e-mails and delivers customer service that is unheard of in the practice of law today.

Kristi values drive and perseverance, which she has demonstrated herself both personally and professionally. Anyone who has seen her in action will agree that she has a passion for law and belongs in the courtroom. Kristi demonstrates empathy, humility, understanding, and compassion with her clients while also being aggressive for their cause. She is a quick study and easily grasps complex issues. Her presentation of cases is both personal and professional; achieving just the right balance for telling her client’s story while applying the law to obtain a successful outcome.

Kristi is kind, understanding, and professional, yet she is also an aggressive litigator that will not back down, especially when she believes in the cause. She zealously advocates for her clients and is driven to provide them the best results. Kristi works extremely hard and spends countless unbilled hours thinking and strategizing. Her clients are often amazed at her recall of the facts of their case, often telling her that it is as if she lived it herself.

While Kristi is a strong advocate for her clients, she is also transparent and honest. She will not tell you that your case is great if it is not. She also will not pursue a matter just to make money. Instead, she provides an honest evaluation and offers solutions for resolving problems. She is a strategist with the knowledge and experience to provide her clients with the best legal representation possible to meet and exceed their goals.

Kristi was born in Montana, which inspired the name of the firm, and raised there until she was 10. Her family then moved to a small town in eastern Washington, Davenport, where she participated in just about every extracurricular activity possible. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1994. Kristi attended college at the University of Montana and Heritage University, graduating summa cum laude from Heritage University in 2000. Kristi graduated from college and attended law school as a single mother. She got married during her third year of law school and had her second child, a son, in May 2003. She graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in June 2003 and passed the July 2003 bar examination when her son was just six weeks old. She has been a litigator in the Seattle area, and has taken on hundreds of cases throughout the state of Washington, since being admitted to the Washington State Bar.

Kristi comes from a family of hard workers. Kristi’s mother worked in various office positions throughout her life and raised Kristi and her sister as a single mother often buying her girls the expensive trendy things they wanted while sacrificing her own needs. Kristi’s maternal grandfather only had an 8th grade education but was a hard-working and very successful rancher in Montana. Her grandmother was a farm wife and homemaker. She was likely the hardest worker on the entire ranch cooking and cleaning and tending to the needs of her husband and the ranch’s hired men. Kristi's paternal grandfather worked on a county road crew for a desolate county in eastern Montana. Her grandmother owned her own shoe repair shop, ran the senior citizen center, and was the county Justice of the Peace (though not a lawyer). She always claimed that she was "the original Judge Judy."

Kristi had a very close and special relationship with her paternal grandmother, who was a strong woman with tenacity, yet caring and gentle at the same time. When she was little, Kristi often went to work with her grandma at the courthouse and was babysat in the clerk's office while court was in session. She recalls a time that she could hear her grandmother’s raised voice calling from the courtroom (through at least two closed doors) giving a defendant an earful. That may have been the moment that Kristi realized she wanted to be a lawyer. Her grandmother was also targeted in the Montana Freeman Standoff in the mid-90s and exemplified strength and courage in a dangerous situation. Kristi has always been in awe of her grandma’s passion, kindness, and strength when faced with obstacles. Kristi’s grandma was only about five feet tall but was tough as nails while also being a caring and genuinely good person, which Kristi finds great value in and strives to achieve herself.

Kristi lives in the Silver Firs neighborhood in South Everett near Mill Creek with her partner, Charles, who runs a local handyman and landscaping business. Combined, they have four children. Their younger children attend Forest View Elementary and Jackson High School.

Kristi is proud to offer legal services in her community and throughout Washington and looks forward to working with you. She may be reached by phone at (425) 324-3586.
